Norðheim Viking Village
not a retreat. a return
Our Vision
Norðheim is our attempt to bring something real back into the world. Not a theme park, not a gimmick, but a living, breathing Viking village built by hand in the heart of Yorkshire. A place where people can step away from noise, screens, and the constant rush, and reconnect with something older. Fire, wood, craft, story, and community. Every structure raised, every tool used, every experience offered is rooted in tradition, sustainability, and respect for the past. This is not about pretending to be Vikings. It is about living simply, working with your hands, sharing space with others, and remembering what it means to feel grounded, capable, and part of something real. Norðheim is not just a destination, it is a return.
The Experience
Live the Old Ways
Step beyond the modern world and into a slower, grounded way of life. Sleep in hand-built wooden huts, wake to the crackle of fire, and spend your days surrounded by nature, not noise. No screens, no distractions, just the rhythm of the land and the simplicity of living as our ancestors once did.
Forge, Craft, Create
This is not a place to watch, it is a place to do. Turn raw materials into something real with your own hands. From woodwork and rune carving to leathercraft and traditional skills, every moment is a chance to learn, build, and leave with more than you arrived with.
Fire, Feast, and Fellowship
As the sun falls, the village comes alive. Gather around the fire, share stories, food, and laughter in the glow of flame and lantern light. This is where strangers become companions, and moments turn into memories that stay with you long after you leave.
Help Build Norðheim
Norðheim is not being built by corporations or investors. It is being built by people who believe something like this should exist. A place where tradition, craft, nature, and community come first.
Norðheim forms part of The Elderwood Project, a registered charity dedicated to sustainability, traditional skills, and community education. Through reclaimed materials, traditional craftsmanship, and hands-on learning, we are working to build something meaningful that will last for generations.
Every donation helps us move one step closer. Timber for huts. Tools for workshops. Land to build a living Viking village in the heart of Yorkshire.
Whether it is £1 or £100, you are not just donating. You are helping create a place where people can reconnect with nature, learn traditional skills, and become part of something real.
The Elderwood Project is a registered charity in England and Wales (No. 1216769).
We will share regular updates so you can follow the journey and see exactly what your support is helping to build.
